Iraqirabita quoting an eyewitness lives in Al-Atafiya – western side of the river says she woke up 07,10 this morning because of the unusual sounds of Americans helicopters above the river Tigris.

I thought that this a beginning of an raid in our neighborhood, to be sure I went upstairs to see where are these helicopters are heading to.

I saw with my own eyes a helicopter firing two missiles, I heard an explosion, then I saw the bridge collapsed.

"Suicide Bombings" - The Cover Story For US Military Ops In Iraq

[...] The reports that a "truck suicide bomb" had been detonated on the bridge came from the US military. No independent Iraqi or other source was able to verify this claim. In fact, AP Television News video showed the bridge broken in two places suggesting two blasts.

It's called "counter insurgency strategy" - divide and conquer.

Why?

The al-Sarafiya bridge connected two northern Baghdad neighborhoods - Waziriyah, a mostly Sunni enclave, and Utafiyah, a Shiite area. After more than a year of massacres of Sunni and Shia civilians by US-sponsored death squads working out of the Iraqi interior ministry, both Sunni and Shia civilians have fled neighborhoods where they were originally in the majority or where there was a mix of the two groups.

Robert Fisk recently commented on the US military plan for "gated communities" in Baghdad:

Faced with an ever-more ruthless insurgency in Baghdad - despite President George Bush's "surge" in troops - US forces in the city are now planning a massive and highly controversial counter-insurgency operation that will seal off vast areas of the city, enclosing whole neighbourhoods with barricades and allowing only Iraqis with newly issued ID cards to enter.

The campaign of "gated communities" - whose genesis was in the Vietnam War - will involve up to 30 of the city's 89 official districts and will be the most ambitious counter-insurgency programme yet mounted by the US in Iraq.

The system has been used - and has spectacularly failed - in the past, and its inauguration in Iraq is as much a sign of American desperation at the country's continued descent into civil conflict as it is of US determination to "win" the war against an Iraqi insurgency that has cost the lives of more than 3,200 American troops. The system of "gating" areas under foreign occupation failed during the French war against FLN insurgents in Algeria and again during the American war in Vietnam. Israel has employed similar practices during its occupation of Palestinian territory - again, with little success.

But the campaign has far wider military ambitions than the pacification of Baghdad. It now appears that the US military intends to place as many as five mechanised brigades - comprising about 40,000 men - south and east of Baghdad, at least three of them positioned between the capital and the Iranian border. This would present Iran with a powerful - and potentially aggressive - American military force close to its border in the event of a US or Israeli military strike against its nuclear facilities later this year.

The latest "security" plan, of which The Independent has learnt the details, was concocted by General David Petraeus, the current US commander in Baghdad, during a six-month command and staff course at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas. Those attending the course - American army generals serving in Iraq and top officers from the US Marine Corps, along with, according to some reports, at least four senior Israeli officers - participated in a series of debates to determine how best to "turn round" the disastrous war in Iraq.

So far, the Baghdad campaign has involved only the creation of a few US positions within several civilian areas of the city but the new project will involve joint American and Iraqi "support bases" in nine of the 30 districts to be "gated" off. From these bases - in fortified buildings - US-Iraqi forces will supposedly clear militias from civilian streets which will then be walled off and the occupants issued with ID cards. Only the occupants will be allowed into these "gated communities" and there will be continuous patrolling by US-Iraqi forces. There are likely to be pass systems, "visitor" registration and restrictions on movement outside the "gated communities". Civilians may find themselves inside a "controlled population" prison.

The senior generals who constructed the new "security" plan for Baghdad were largely responsible for the seminal - but officially "restricted" - field manual on counter-insurgency produced by the Department of the Army in December of last year, code-numbered FM 3-24. While not specifically advocating the "gated communities" campaign, one of its principles is the unification of civilian and military activities, citing "civil operations and revolutionary development support teams" in South Vietnam, assistance to Kurdish refugees in northern Iraq in 1991 and the "provincial reconstruction teams" in Afghanistan - a project widely condemned for linking military co-operation and humanitarian aid.

FM 3-24 is harsh in its analysis of what counter-insurgency forces must do to eliminate violence in Iraq. "With good intelligence," it says, "counter-insurgents are like surgeons cutting out cancerous tissue while keeping other vital organs intact." But another former senior US officer has produced his own pessimistic conclusions about the "gated" neighbourhood project.

"Once the additional troops are in place the insurrectionists will cut the lines of communication from Kuwait to the greatest extent they are able," he told The Independent. "They will do the same inside Baghdad, forcing more use of helicopters. The helicopters will be vulnerable coming into the patrol bases, and the enemy will destroy as many as they can. The second part of their plan will be to attempt to destroy one of the patrol bases. They will begin that process by utilising their people inside the 'gated communities' to help them enter. They will choose bases where the Iraqi troops either will not fight or will actually support them.

"The American reaction will be to use massive firepower, which will destroy the neighbourhood that is being 'protected'."

Queste incredibili incongruenze risultano molto sospette soprattutto considerando che ad oggi non è stata fornita al mondo una sola prova autentica che leghi bin Laden o la sua presunta organizzazione agli attentati di quel giorno, e che diversi personaggi al vertice dell'amministrazione (John Ashcroft, Ministro di Giustizia, Theodore Olson, Procuratore Generale, Donald Rumsfeld, Ministro della Difesa) hanno ripetutamente dichiarato che è assolutamente lecito, per un governo, mentire al mondo intero - nemici ed amici compresi - pur di raggiungere i propri fini.

Ma cos'è di preciso: COINTELPRO?

Lettura molto interessante questa, aiuta a capire "da vicino" cosa si intende con questa enigmatica sigla che da un po' di tempo imperversa nei siti di "conspiracy theories", o teorie della cospirazione, o dietrologie che dir si voglia.

In poche parole, quello che accade quotidianamente ad un certo livello di potere e di controllo - politico, mediatico, corporativo, militare - procedure standard per alcuni, invisibili leggende metropolitane per altri (la maggior parte).

Difficile "farsene un'idea", ed appunto per questo che funziona dannatamente bene...

Alex Jones and 911 Scholars: The Parable of the Good Shepherd

Lately there's been a lot of "rah rah" activity among the "Reopen 911" folks; at the same time, there's been a whole lot of infighting and flaming. Gerard Holmgren and Rosalee Grable AKA Webfairy, are insisting that there were no planes at ALL involved in 911 - that it was all manufactured imagery via various technologies - and at the same time, they and a coterie of their fans (fan is short for fanatic) are going after Prof. Steven Jones because he is not giving them full credit for coming up with the idea that the World Trade Center Towers (and Building 7) were brought down by Controlled Demolition. (It never occurs to them that he might have thought of this himself after watching the films of the collapse and thus is not obliged to give them credit.) The reason I know about all this is because somehow, I got included on a list of 911 people a couple of weeks ago (it started with a debate being promoted by APFN, I believe and, like Topsy, just "grew and grew"), and at a certain point, I just could no longer keep silent at the nonsense that was flying back and forth, being passed off as logic and reason.

Trying to bring the light of measured discourse and calm reflection to this group was pretty much like waving a red flag at a bull. I was actually quite shocked. Individuals whose writings I had long considered to be quite good, if not superior, revealed themselves to be little more than ego driven wannabes. After a few days of exchanges, providing referenced material for discussion, and being flamed by such luminaries as Holmgren, Grable and (surprise!) Alex Constantine, I realized that it is really, really true: the 911 Movement is co-opted to the very core, and probably always has been.

Mohammed Atta - l'altra faccia della medaglia

Per quattro anni sia l'amministrazione Bush che la commissione per l'11 settembre (presieduta da Thomas Kean e diretta da Philip Zelikow) ci hanno raccontato come un estremista egiziano, Mohammed Atta, sia stato l'uomo chiave dell'attacco terroristico dell'11 settembre. Atta, secondo il rapporto di Kean, è stato a "capo del complotto dell'11 settembre". Era lui il pilota che, in quella mattinata da incubo, guidò il primo aereo, il volo American Airlines 11, contro la Torre Nord del World Trade Center. Era la faccia di Atta che, nelle televisioni e nei giornali di tutto il mondo, divenne il simbolo del terrorisomo islamico. Era il nome di Atta (e non quello di nessuno degli altri 18 sequestratori, ritenuti essere tutti ai suoi ordini) che veniva citato a destra e a manca. Atta era (sempre secondo il rapporto Kean) il comandante incaricato delle operazioni nel territorio degli Usa. Secondo sia l'amministrazione Bush che la commissione per l'11 settembre, Atta lavorava agli ordini di Osama Bin Laden che, dal lontano Afghanistan, controllava l'intera operazione.

Adesso, dopo quasi quattro anni esatti dall'11 settembre 2001, i fatti sembrano essere stati capovolti. Adesso veniamo a sapere che Atta era anche coinvolto in una operazione top-secret gestita negli USA, per conto del Pentagono, dal SOCOM (Special Operation Command). Secondo Anthony Shaffer (tenente colonnello delle riserva dell'esercito degli Stati Uniti) un programma top-secret denominato in codice "Able Danger" (pericolo possibile) aveva già identificato sia Atta che altri 3 dei sequestratori dell'11 settembre, come membri della cellula di Al-Qaeda ... oltre un anno PRIMA dell'attacco.

"Able Danger" (pericolo possibile) era un'operazione top-secret programmata per una durata di 18 mesi che, secondo Shaffer "doveva ricercare informazioni su Al-Qaeda su scala mondiale" usando database tecnologici informativi per trovare "associazioni, collegamenti, sincronicità". Lui stesso aveva riscontrato i nomi dei quattro già a metà del 2000.

Schaffer si rendeva certamente conto della delicatezza delle sue rivelazioni. Per questo si rivolse a due parlamentari (Dennis Hastert repubblicano dell'Illinois e Peter Hoekstra repubblicano del Michigan). Schaffer sostiene che entrambi gli dissero che rivelare il segreto "era la cosa giusta da fare". Dice anche: "mi assicurarono che non ci sarebbero state conseguenze negative nel rivelare la cosa"

I colloqui con Hastert e Hoekstra ebbero luogo prima che Schaffer facesse filtrare, in maniera anonima, l'informazione ai media. Cosa che poi avvenne ufficialmente l'8 agosto 2005 negli uffici di Curt Weldon, parlamentare repubblicano della Pennsylvania, che ricopre la carica di Vice Presidente di un comitato para-militare, d'accordo anch'egli con la rivelazione del segreto.

La decisione di Schaffer di rivelare il progetto "Able Danger" (pericolo possibile) ha dato adito ad alcune insidiose domande, non ultima quella sul ruolo effettivamente rivestito da Atta nell'operazione top-secret. Ovviamente ci si pone anche la domanda se qualcuno al Pentagono fosse a conoscenza del progetto di Atta per l'11 settembre.

Per ora, comunque, le domande rimangono senza risposta. Il Pentagono ribadisce solo che non c'è alcuna prova che, già un anno prima, qualcuno dei servizi segreti fosse a conoscenza di un possibile attacco come quello dell'11 settembre. Il Pentagono ha solo riconosciuto l'esistenza del programma "Able Danger" (pericolo possibile), ma nega che Atta e gli atri tre fossero già stati identificati nel 1999.

Quando la versione ufficiale dei fatti viene capovolta, dobbiamo fare mente locale, tornare alle fonti e chiederci: cosa sappiamo davvero dell'11 settembre? La maggiore fonte possibile di informazioni, quello stesso Atta, è morto. Per ora abbiamo solo Schaffer, un uomo di 42 anni, nato a Kansas City, che ha lavorato per i servizi segreti della Difesa (DIA = Defense Intelligence Agency) a Washington, al tempo dell'attacco dell'11 settembre, ed ha avuto accesso ad altre operazioni segrete del Pentagono. Secondo Schaffer, quando lui informò l'FBI richiedendo l'arresto di Atta, i legali del Pentagono intervennero in difesa di Atta per ragioni che rimangono poco chiare.

Il rapporto ufficiale della commissione per l'11 settembre che, per sua stessa ammissione, ha cercato "di riportare il massimo possibile dei fatti connessi all'11 settembre", nelle sue 567 pagine non fa alcuna menzione dell'operazione "Able Danger" (pericolo possibile) né di alcuna altra operazione del SOCOM. Nelle raccomandazioni per migliorare la protezione da futuri attacchi terroristici, invece, il rapporto Kean a pagina 415 suggerisce di dare maggiori poteri proprio al SOCOM per operazioni secretate, nonostante questo fosse un settore già sotto il controllo dalla Cia.

La commissione Kean raccomanda anche una migliore supervisione per "combattere la segretezza e la complessità". Però, allo stesso tempo, apprendiamo da Schaffer che la commissione Kean non ha riportato tutta la storia dell'11 settembre, dimenticandosi di "Able Danger" (pericolo possibile). Schaffer, per sua stessa conferma, aveva informato personalmente Zelikow in merito a "Able Danger" (pericolo possibile). Eppure Zelikow non ha ritenuto di riportare questo fatto con il pretesto che si trattava di cosa "storicamente irrilevante".

Se è vero che Zelikow decise di non includere le informazioni su "Able Danger" (pericolo possibile) nel rapporto Kean ed è altrettanto vero che Zelikow scrisse che Atta era il "capo tattico del complotto dell'11 settembre" e se è infine vero, come spiegato da Schaffer, che il SOCOM agì proteggendo Atta prima del suo attacco mortale che causò 3.000 vittime, allora tutto il rapporto ufficiale sui fatti dell'11 settembre è da considerarsi screditato ed a noi non rimangono che un mare di bugie e di insabbiamenti.

Quattro anni dopo l'11 settembre ci troviamo di fronte a fatti che vanno in direzione diametralmente opposta a quelli riportati nella versione ufficiale. Mentre le questioni basilari rimangono senza risposta e c'è una grossa probabilità che non ne avranno mai una, è compito dei media mentenere viva l'attenzione e non permettere che tutto venga spazzato via come sporcizia infilata sotto il tappettino della confusione della complessità.

Leggetevi questo articolo del Guardian, dove il padre di Mohammed Atta, El-Amir, dice che il figlio è ancora vivo dopo gli attacchi dell'11 settembre 2001, e che chiamò a casa il giorno seguente.
Dice inoltre che si nascondeva o veniva tenuto nascosto in un "posto segreto".

In un altro articolo del Taipei Times, l'ex avvocato e padre di M. Atta, punta il dito su una cospirazione tra USA e Israele.

In un altro articolo della BBC News, si parla solo della presunta buona condotta del figlio, e non si parla minimamente della probabilità che egli sia ancora vivo o meno.

Recentemente, El-Amir cambia leggermente versione, puntanto il dito su una guerra religiosa che durerà per i prossimi 50 anni a venire, cominciata con l'11 settembre e proseguita con le bombe a Londra del 7 luglio 2005, e difendendo poi la posizione del figlio, che in sostanza ha fatto bene a combattere per il bene del mondo islamico.

Andando avanti, troviamo ancora El-Amir ovverosia Atta Senior, dire che:

“The Mossad kidnapped my son,” Atta Senior asserted at the time to reporters. “He is the easiest person to kidnap, very surrendering, no physical power, no money for bodyguards. They used his name and identity.”

“He was still alive after the attack,” Atta Senior claimed vociferously. “He called me twenty-four hours and forty-eight hours after the attack. That was the last time. Because after that, they indeed killed him."

Il Mossad ha rapito mio figlio - era ancora vivo dopo l'attacco - mi chiamò 24 ore e 48 ore dopo l'attacco - fu l'ultima volta - perché dopo di allora lo uccisero sicuramente.

Poi c'è la storia delle compagnie di trasloco israeliane, degli studenti d'arte israeliani, del capo dell'ISI pachistano che faceva colazione in Florida proprio l'11 settembre e di certi appartamenti che si trovavano vicino all'apartamento di M. Atta...
